rue21 Social Media Takeover

The majority of this blogging/personal branding thing consists of me being hunched over a laptop writing, reading or editing. There are days like last Wednesday that I'll look back on as one of the best days of my blogging career. 

"A social media takeover is when an influencer, employee, or customer has access to a brand's social media account for a certain period of time."

So, what happened? I took over rue21's social media pages for a day to give people back to school shopping tips while I was back-to-school shopping for myself (rue21 gave me a $200.00 gift card to do so). With 767,000 Instagram followers, 36,000 Twitter followers, and 50k snapchat views during my takeover, rue21 has a social media influence of almost a million people. This was a little nerve racking and a lot of pressure - I mean, that's 1.6 MILLION eyeballs!

A social media takeover is when an influencer, employee, or customer has access to a brand's social media account for a certain period of time. A takeover can last a few minutes, hours, a day or a whole week. During this period of time, the brand's audience is presented with a new face for a refreshing perspective and a real human connection.

"All of this human interaction wasn't a burden, in fact it was a blessing."

And boy did I get a human connection.

I was getting over 150 snaps per hour, tons of DM's, and so many comments that I told the rue21 employees "I think I'm gonna get carpal tunnel". All of this human interaction wasn't a burden, in fact it was a blessing. I'm so lucky to have an opportunity that very few people get in life and I'm still in (what I feel like is) the beginning of my career in this men's fashion space.

Thank you to all of my new followers that transitioned over from the takeover and my loyal fans who have been following me since day-wheneveryoustartedfollowingme. It's opportunities like this that help expand the amount of people I can reach and keep me excited about what I do. Also, thank you to rue21 for being one of the first brands to believe in me and my personal brand. They were one of the first handful of brands to sponsor me and our relationship has flourished since.
