Any tailored look that you experiment with deserves to be reevaluated. Why? because dressing down is the new way to dress in 2016. There are tons of jacket options out there for you to replace with your suit jacket (denim jackets, bombers, leather jackets are great examples) that'll give you what I like to call the tailored-weekend look. The tailored weekend look is a silhouette that says "I may be off form my job for the weekend, but I'm ready to bust a move instead of busting out another sales presentation".
There are more than enough suits in the world, but there are less than enough guys who actually know how to break apart their tailored pieces like I have in this look.
What is a track jacket?
The track jacket was originally designed to be the every day staple of the sports fanatic and active man. Its a windbreaker that comes with a ribbed waist band and wrist cuffs, with a zipper that extends the length of the collar - allowing for neck warmth on occassions such as chilly fall football evenings.
After being adopted in the 1990's by the rap/hip-hop community, a baggier fit became more popular when it came to the style. 1) For the well-known baggy clothes phenomena that's prevalent in hip hop culture 2) To provide plenty of room for movement with jogging and engaging in physical activity.
How should it fit?
For tailored looks, you 'll want the sleeves to be as slim and high as possible without being too tight. You want to show the world how you're curls are paying off - but without looking like you shopped in the boys section.
In regards to the length, it should end up somewhere between the top and middle of your belt loop. The lowest point it should reach is the bottom of your crotch zipper - and that's even pushing it.
Which Varsity Jacket Should I Buy?
Investing time, energy, and 2 hours of looking through style blogs for inspiration to go athleisure can be a daunting task. The biggest challenge is making sure that you not only buy the right jacket, but you wear it the right way.
Of course, track jackets should stay in your closet from 9 to 5, but afterwards you can pull it out for post work errands, casual follow up client meetings, an evening date (my personal favorite choice), and anytime you want to be a step above the rest of the guys when you know no one in the room who won't be wearing a tie.
Dark shades such as navy, grey, and black will suit you well. Having at least one varsity jacket, and one other jacket that you can dress down with a tie is essential for the modern man.
Since it was a late afternoon/early evening, I went with dark shades from head to toe (with the shirt being an exception). The knit tie is in a casual fabric, making it conducive with the casual nature of a track jacket. Knit ties are a great option for when you dress up a leather jacket and leather jacket as well.
To embrace the beginning of summer knocking on the door, you should practice going sock less now to prepare for the heat storm. You don't have to be in the south to go sock less - after all, you're dressing down for a reason.
