Somewhere, there's a kid thinking of the next big app with a valuation higher than most of us would earn in five life times. Whether you're an innovator looking to create the next big thing or you're a consumer enjoying the current state of the internet/social media, Snapchat is probably on your plate of daily consumption.
More than 100 million daily users share the highlights and downfalls of their day (especially if you're name is DJ Khaled and you're lost at sea). Regardless of how often you use the app or how much of your life you share on it, you want to get good at the social media platform that everyone is on. Not only is it sure to help your social life (with healthy usage) but will help expand your personal brand.
Snapchat is story telling and its engaging...the two components of any platform that almost every consumer wants. Humans today (literally) have the attention span of a goldfish, so how can you keep their attention on Snapchat?
1) Tell a story
Its called a Snapchat STORY for a reason. The more of a story you tell from the time you wake up to the time you hit the hay, the more people will be crawling for more - metaphorically speaking.
If people are literally crawling for your Snapchat story, reevaluate how you're using it.
On average, people spend 25-30 minutes a day on Snapchat and people can be friends with hundreds of people whose lives they're all interested in. What's going to set yours apart? The influencers who I'm most interested in are the ones who tell it all. The good (unboxing gifts from brands in the morning) to the bad (sharing a face to screen story about a struggle they're dealing with) to the neutral (taking a picture of their daily cappuccino).
2) Bring out the 'Chat' in Snapchat
This tip is more targeted towards influencers. Think of the difference of effort in calling someone instead of texting them. When you respond to someone's snap with a video/picture, it can be time consuming and tasteless if your picture of the floor has no meaning attached to it.
Using the 'chat' feature is the easiest way to engage with people. When you see them face to face, they'll know that you care somewhat about their lives because you took the time to give positive feedback as opposed to just being another name that viewed their story.
3) Provide inspiration and entertainment
The frustrating thing about social media is that it can make you feel bad about your life, body, or the 'boring' lifestyle it seems like you're living in comparison to your friends. The least we can do is lift people up on mediums where they're emotionally influenced. Record a short inspirational video, or take a picture of a great quote on a wall that'll lift someone's spirit.
This will let people know that you don't just want them to be interested in your life, you want them to be touched every time that they view your story.
